What is MathCounts?
The aim of the MathCounts
Program is the promotion of mathematical competency. MathCounts is
critical because it targets middle & junior high school students at a
decisive stage in the development of their interest in mathematics.
Students
will compete at the local, state and national competitions; prizes will be
awarded at each level of competition. State winners will receive a free trip to
Washington, D.C. for the national finals. National winners
receive scholarships and a trip to NASA Space Camp.
Last year, more than 600 students participated in the statewide
program. Nationwide, more than four million students have competed in the
program since its inception in 1983. This year that more than 2,500 students throughout the state
will enroll in the program this year. Nationally, about 350,000 students
participate annually. Participation allows the students to be coached in
accelerated topics such as probability, statistics, linear algebra and
polynomials.
